He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, where he graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1974. He received his Medical Degree from the State University of New York at Brooklyn, Downstate Medical School in 1978, where he was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the medical honor society. Dr. Neuwirth completed his residency in internal medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center in New York and a residency in ophthalmology at the Edward S. Harkness Eye Institute at Columbia-Presbyterian, where he also served as chief resident. He completed a Vitreo-Retinal Fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee.
With nearly 40 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Neuwirth brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular, to his area of expertise, ophthalmology. When asked why he decided to pursue medicine as a career, Dr. Neuwirth said:
"I had many interests in college. I was a psychology major and I wanted to enter a field where I could join my interests in science and behavior, while helping people every day."

In addition to his private practice, Dr. Neuwirth has been the Chief of the Department of Ophthalmology at Hartford Hospital since 2004, and also serves as an Assistant Clinical Professor at the University of Connecticut School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery, Division of Ophthalmology.
