MARTINSBURG, W.V., June 11, 2018 (Newswire.com) - William Richard McCune Jr., Managing Member, McCune & Tsiatsos, PLLC, has joined Noticed©, an invitation-only service for distinguished professionals. McCune has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer™ based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout his career.
McCune outshines others in his field due to his extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and career longevity. After receiving his A.B. in history with honors from Duke University in 1971, he went on to West Virginia University College of Law where he served on the Law Review Staff and earned his J.D. in 1974.
Medical malpractice is becoming tougher to litigate in West Virginia because of the restrictions that they're putting on it from a statutory standpoint. There's less to do as a defendant, and there's less to do as a plaintiff's attorney. We still pursue these actions, but the process is now more technical, and favorable outcomes for the injured party are more difficult to achieve.

With over 40 years dedicated to law, McCune brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and, in particular, to his areas of specialization, business law, personal injury, litigation defense, and estate planning. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in law, McCune said:
"I wanted to practice law, and I wanted to practice law here at home. As an attorney, you have the opportunity to help people, and if you work hard, you can really make a difference in someone’s life. I've been in Martinsburg for my entire career, and I’m proud to say that I've been continuously serving this community since I started practicing."
A dedicated member of his community, McCune takes a special interest in defending the rights of injured victims throughout Berkeley County and the nearby area. Most recently, he represented plaintiffs in cases of nursing home neglect and prescription drug abuse which resulted in death. The firm has achieved several settlements in excess of $1,000,000. McCune further has been called upon to consult with other attorneys based on his pioneering eminent domain litigation.
As a thought leader in his field, McCune has his finger on the pulse of prevailing legal trends in the state. In particular, he notes the evolving difficulty of trying medical malpractice cases:
"Medical malpractice is becoming tougher to litigate in West Virginia because of the restrictions that they're putting on it from a statutory standpoint. There's less to do as a defendant, and there's less to do as a plaintiff's attorney. We still pursue these actions, but the process is now more technical, and favorable outcomes for the injured party are more difficult to achieve."
Throughout his career, McCune has defended insureds against both medical malpractice and legal malpractice and has worked on behalf of insurance companies such as Aetna Casualty and Surety Co., ALPS, and numerous others in litigation involving personal injury, bad faith, and coverage claims. He served on the Board of Governors of the West Virginia Defense Trial Counsel for three years and is a member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys. McCune has also represented a number of hospitals in the region and has further has served for many years as a Commissioner in Chancery for the Berkeley County Circuit Court with the duty of reviewing for the Court the General Receiver’s accounts.
