Lee R. Benton Has Been Recognized Among the Top in His Industry by Noticed©

Noticed celebrates its newest member, Attorney Lee R. Benton

Lee R. Benton, Founding Partner, Benton & Centeno, LLP, has joined Noticed©, an invitation-only service for distinguished professionals. Benton has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer™ based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout his career.

Benton outshines others in his field due to his extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and career longevity. After graduating from Auburn University with a degree in law enforcement, he went on to the Cumberland School of Law at Samford University.

Now that the economy is getting better, I have switched more to the business litigation side for two reasons: one, the sheer number of businesses filing for bankruptcy have gone down, and two, people can actually afford to litigate.

Lee R. Benton, Founding Partner, Benton & Centeno, LLP

With over 40 years dedicated to law, Benton brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and, in particular, to his area of specialization, commercial bankruptcy, and business litigation. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in this area of law, Benton said:

"During law school, I did an internship in criminal law, and it was nothing at all like I had imagined. So I turned my attention towards the plaintiff’s personal injury law. But after graduation, I was hired by a commercial firm that concentrated on bankruptcy and business litigation. I really enjoyed it, and I have been in this area ever since."

Benton is recognized nationwide for the many notable cases he has been involved with throughout his career, including the successful defense of a former employee of a Trust Company, the sale of Adventure Bus LLC through bankruptcy court, and obtaining recognition of an implied restrictive covenant on golf course realty through both the Bankruptcy Court and Alabama Supreme Court.

As a thought leader in his field, Benton maintains a unique vantage point from which to keep his eye on prevailing trends in bankruptcy and business law, allowing him to stay ahead of the curve. In particular, he notes that his business practice has changed significantly with developments in the economy over the past decade:

"When the economy tanked during the Great Recession, my concentration swung more toward commercial bankruptcy where I primarily represented debtors. Now that the economy is getting better, I have switched more to the business litigation side for two reasons: one, the sheer number of businesses filing for bankruptcy have gone down, and two, people can actually afford to litigate."

Benton has been listed in Best Lawyers in America®, the American Institute of Legal Counsel™’s 10 best bankruptcy attorneys in Alabama, and in many issues of B-Metro Magazine. He is also AV® Preeminent™ Rated by Martindale-Hubbell® and has been recognized by Super Lawyers® and the American Society of Legal Advocates.
