The Expert Network celebrates its newest member, Attorney Laura Moffett
ORLANDO, Fla., January 12, 2018 (Newswire.com) - Laura Moffett, Attorney at Law, Orlando Legal, has joined The Expert Network, an invitation-only service for distinguished professionals. Ms. Moffett has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout her career.
Ms. Moffett outshines others in her field due to her extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and outstanding client service. She earned her Bachelor of Science in legal studies at the University of Central Florida in 2004. After graduating, she spent two years working as a paralegal to get the lay of the land before applying to Barry University - Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law, ultimately obtaining her Juris Doctor in 2009.
Named to the National Advocates’ Top 40 Under 40 and Top 100 Lawyers, Ms. Moffett brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry, and, in particular to her area of specialization, family law. When asked why she decided to pursue a career in law, Ms. Moffett said:
It used to be assumed that the mother was going to have a majority of the custody because it was assumed that a young child needed to be with his or her mother. Today's policy is geared toward looking at all the facts to determine custody, and usually ends with 50/50 sharing time for both the mom and dad. This is a good thing because children need both parents in their lives, and to know that both mom and dad love them no matter what.
"I’ve always been about what is fair, so law was really the obvious choice. I went into family law in particular because my parents went through a rough divorce when I was a teenager. It was very hard for me and my sister, and I wanted to direct my law career toward making sure no other children had to go through what we did.”
Since beginning her career, Ms. Moffett has dedicated her practice to all aspects of family law, including divorce and protecting child interests. She is currently an attorney at Orlando Legal where she passionately advocates on behalf of her clients.
As a leader in her field, Ms. Moffett’s biggest concern in every case is the wellbeing of the children involved. She aims to engage parents in productive conversations about the best interests of their children, no matter the outcome of their relationship. When asked about the nature of child custody in the State of Florida, Ms. Moffett noted that the courts are heading towards a more equitable approach:
"It used to be assumed that the mother was going to have a majority of the custody because it was assumed that a young child needed to be with his or her mother. Today’s policy is geared toward looking at all the facts to determine custody, and usually ends with 50/50 sharing time for both the mom and dad. This is a good thing because children need both parents in their lives, and to know that both mom and dad love them no matter what."
Outside of her practice, Ms. Moffett spends a great deal of time volunteering with the Rotary Club of Altamonte Springs and was recently elected to serve as the club’s new president for 2018-2019. Ms. Moffett also serves with the Central Florida Family Law American Inns of Court, which is dedicated to improving the practice of family law through continuing education and interaction with local judges.
