An evolution in cannabis regulation—for both medicinal and recreational use— is happening rapidly. These developments are very relevant to my defense of cannabis cases, and I stay in close contact with experts in the field who can help advise me and also testify in court as a defense expert. The scientific and toxicology issues related to marijuana DUIs are also of major relevance to my practice.

Selected to the Super Lawyers “Rising Stars” list in 2016 and 2017, Mr. Kaloustian brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and, in particular, to his area of specialization, criminal defense and personal injury law. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in law, Mr. Kaloustian said:

"I became very interested in the law and conflict resolution, and as I started my law courses I got more involved in international human rights and advocacy. I did a lot of international human rights work through USF as a student, and I started to see links between that international practice and United States criminal defense work. So my niche developed very naturally."

After graduating, Mr. Kaloustian became a fellow at The Tibetan Centre for Human Rights and Democracy in Dharamsala, India, as well as co-founded the International Center for Mental Health and Human Rights. He also worked a Program Officer for The Forgotten International and contributed to the Living on a Dollar a Day book project.

Today, Mr. Kaloustian is known throughout the San Francisco Bay Area for his industry-leading to client advocacy. Much of his practice consists of criminal defense, including DUI/DUID and traffic infraction defense, and defense against police-related claims such as resisting arrest. Additionally, he is a diversely talented and adaptable attorney who has also defended claims of white-collar crime, violent crime, identity fraud, and more, as well as a variety of personal injury claims.

As a thought-leader in his field, Mr. Kaloustian is exposed to a wide range of trends and changes in criminal law. Lately, he has been paying close attention to changes in cannabis regulation. He notes:

"An evolution in cannabis regulation—for both medicinal and recreational use— is happening rapidly. These developments are very relevant to my defense of cannabis cases, and I stay in close contact with experts in the field who can help advise me and also testify in court as a defense expert. The scientific and toxicology issues related to marijuana DUIs are also of major relevance to my practice."
