Jason L. Hurst Has Been Recognized Among the Top in His Industry by the Expert Network©

The Expert Network celebrates its newest member, Attorney Jason L. Hurst

Jason L. Hurst, Partner, Harrison & Held, LLP, has joined The Expert Network©, an invitation-only service for distinguished professionals. Mr. Hurst has been chosen as a Distinguished Lawyer™ based on peer reviews and ratings, dozens of recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout his career.

Mr. Hurst outshines others in his field due to his extensive educational background, numerous awards and recognitions, and outstanding client service. He earned his B.S. from Grand Valley State University in 2005 and his J.D. from Indiana University-Bloomington in 2009. Since beginning his career just eight years ago, Mr. Hurst has already been recognized as a top attorney in family law by organizations such as Leading Lawyers℠, Attorney & Practice Magazine, and the American Institute of Family Law Attorneys, among numerous other honors.

It has been a trend in Illinois in recent years that non-custodial parents (often fathers) are afforded more frequent and liberal parenting time (formerly known as visitation) with their children. As a child of divorce and a father of three, it is important to me that men come into the process on equal footing and are afforded every opportunity to be active and involved fathers and co-parents of their children. This has been codified in recent amendments to the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act which provides, 'It is presumed both parents are fit…' 750 ILCS 5/602.7(b).

Twice included in the Illinois Super Lawyers’® Rising Stars list, Mr. Hurst brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and, in particular, to his area of specialization, family law, including matters related to divorce, custody, child support, parenting time disputes, and the preparation of premarital agreements. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in law, Mr. Hurst said:

"Growing up, I had a mentor who was a domestic relations judge. I had the opportunity to shadow him during high school and then to clerk for him after my first year of law school. While I was clerking for him, I met another gentleman who was practicing in his courtroom who would later become my boss. He eventually asked me if I was interested in coming to the firm to work full-time as an attorney in family law, and I haven’t looked back since."

Throughout his career, Mr. Hurst has represented many current and former professional athletes, members of the media and a Grammy award-winning Chicago musician, among countless other hardworking teachers, police officers, entrepreneurs, and other professionals. Today, Mr. Hurst brings extensive experience to his work with Harrison & Held, where he continues to focus his practice on complex family law matters. He has built a reputation for treating each client as if they were his only client, working with the highest level of diligence, attention to detail, and professionalism.

As a thought-leader in his field, Mr. Hurst keeps his finger on the pulse of prevailing trends in family law. In particular, he notes that non-custodial parents are getting to spend more time with their children, a possible result of recent legislative changes:

"It has been a trend in Illinois in recent years that non-custodial parents (often fathers) are afforded more frequent and liberal parenting time (formerly known as visitation) with their children. As a child of divorce and a father of three, it is important to me that men come into the process on equal footing and are afforded every opportunity to be active and involved fathers and co-parents of their children. This has been codified in recent amendments to the Illinois Marriage and Dissolution of Marriage Act which provides, 'It is presumed both parents are fit…' 750 ILCS 5/602.7(b)."
