"Nowadays, almost everything is done digitally. LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter are all forms of media that are frequently used in my business now. Zillow is also a big one. It's essential to keep up with the times. I'm a little bit old school at heart; I like to work face to face and really get to know my clients first hand, but I'm realizing the value in using social media. It is a way to grow the business. That's been a really big change in the last three-to-five years."
Eddie O'Keefe, Branch Manager, SWBC Mortgage Corporation
With 20 years dedicated to the mortgage industry, Mr. O'Keefe brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular, to his area of expertise, residential mortgage services in the greater Jacksonville, Florida region. When asked what inspired him to pursue a career in mortgages, Mr. O'Keefe said:
"My first job out of college was with a small branch of Norwest Financial, a financial firm that did all types of lending, nothing commercial but residential, credit cards, small loans, and personal loans. I was able to try my hand in a few directions and it was ultimately real estate that I really liked. I worked there for about a year-and-half before moving into real estate full-time."
When Mr. O’Keefe got his start in the mortgage business in 1996, he instantly loved the job and welcomed the challenge of understanding and learning guidelines for so many different loan types. After leaving Norwest, he began working solely as a loan officer for EquiCredit Corporation of America where he quickly developed an in-depth knowledge of the industry and a deft ability for finding the best loan type for each individual homebuyer. Since then, Mr. O'Keefe has worked hard to maintain his reputation as one of the leading loan officers in the greater area of Jacksonville. In 2012, he joined SWBC in Jacksonville as a branch manager where he continues to work today.
As a thought-leader in his field, Mr. O’Keefe keeps a close eye on prevailing trends in the mortgage industry. In particular, he has found that home buyers are increasingly turning toward social media and other internet sources to gather information regarding their mortgage and real estate needs. He noted:
"Nowadays, almost everything is done digitally. LinkedIn, Facebook, and Twitter are all forms of media that are frequently used in my business now. Zillow is also a big one. It’s essential to keep up with the times. I’m a little bit old school at heart; I like to work face to face and really get to know my clients first hand, but I’m realizing the value in using social media. It is a way to grow the business. That's been a really big change in the last three-to-five years."
