After earning his Bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from Fudan University in Shanghai in 1982, Dr. Yu emigrated to the United States to pursue a Ph.D. in Molecular and Cell Biology at New York University School of Medicine, which he earned in 1989, followed by a medical degree, which he earned in 1996. He went on to Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons where he continued both his medical training and research, completing an internship, residency, and fellowship. At Columbia he was also a Lucille P. Markey Research Fellow and completed an NIH Postdoctoral Fellowship in Arteriosclerosis. Dr. Yu currently serves as a Medical Director for Greenwich Hospital in addition to practicing with the Northeast Medical Group, both affiliated with Yale New Haven Health.

Throughout his career, Dr. Yu has received numerous awards and honors, including the NIH Research Grant Award (R03) for his research on the Role of DGAT1 in Muscle Lipotoxicity, the AMA Physician’s recognition Award, and has been named one of “America’s Top Physicians” by Consumers Research Council of America and to Castle Connolly Medical, LTD's list of “Top Doctors”, among many others.
With 17 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Yu brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular, to his area of expertise, endocrinology and nutrition. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Yu said:

As a thought-leader in his specialty, Dr. Yu remains widely renowned for his groundbreaking research in endocrinology and metabolism. Dr. Yu is a member of the American Association of Clinical Endocrinologists, the American College of Physicians, and the American Medical Association. He is a Fellow of the American College of Endocrinology and of the CUSBEA (China-US Biochemistry Examination and Application).
