"Medicine is a very personal business and the older you are, I think the more you are able to allow your humanity to come through and understand what's going on with your patients. I think they try to beat out that personal aspect of medicine during training so you can handle it effectively when patients are in crisis. Then, out in the world, as a physician you need to come back to your humanity in order to connect with your patients and see them in their entirety. That's the most important aspect of being a doctor for me."

Rebecca Lee Perlow, D.O., FACOG, Board Certified in Obstetrics & Gynecology, Perlow Medical Corporation

With 30 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Perlow brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry and, in particular, to her area of expertise, Obstetrics & Gynecology. Before becoming a doctor, Perlow worked as a Registered Nurse (RN) When asked why she decided to become a doctor, Dr. Perlow said:

"My first job as an RN was at Tarzana Hospital, or what's now called Providence Tarzana Medical Center. The first time I saw a LeBoyer birth, a doctor named Alan Entin did it and he had the baby delivered right into warm water. The lights in the room were all down except a single focus of beam on the baby floating in the water transitioning from one world to the next gently, sweetly, and with such amazing kindness and love; it was the coolest thing I had ever seen in my whole life. And I thought to myself ‘that's what I want to do with my life’. So I went immediately back to school, I think I’d only been a nurse for six months before I started working on a second degree in cellular and molecular biology."

As a thought-leader in her industry, Dr. Perlow understands that the key to success in medicine goes far beyond a doctor’s expertise in a particular field, but further lies in their ability to connect with patients to better understand their medical needs. She noted:

"Medicine is a very personal business and the older you are, I think the more you are able to allow your humanity to come through and understand what's going on with your patients. I think they try to beat out that personal aspect of medicine during training so you can handle it effectively when patients are in crisis. Then, out in the world, as a physician you need to come back to your humanity in order to connect with your patients and see them in their entirety. That's the most important aspect of being a doctor for me."
