Maureen McMahon, M.D., General Pediatrics Physician

With forty years dedicated to medicine, McMahon brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry and, in particular, to her area of expertise in pediatric medicine. When asked why she decided to become a pediatrician, McMahon said:

"I thought it was really fascinating. And I had been an adult nurse, so I felt like my interests would be adult cardiology. But then I didn't actually get to go to medical school until I had three children. And the youngest is developmentally impaired, so I just got pulled very naturally into pediatrics. And I love it. I love the patient care aspect of my job."

As a leader in her industry, McMahon is an expert in caring for children with medically complex issues such as Down syndrome, developmental delay and neurological problems. She also has experience working in concert with sub-specialists coordinating care for children suffering from multi-system issues. Currently, she is particularly interested in and focused on the impact of early identification and therapies for children with autism. She noted:

"A positive trend in our world is our ability to better identify children who have autism and are in need of early therapies, because I absolutely believe that can meaningfully impact their top outcome and functioning."

McMahon is a pediatrician affiliated with multiple hospitals, including Lankenau Medical Center and duPont Hospital for Children. She is the Associate Medical Director at a private residential school for disabled children. Dr. McMahon is actively involved in clinical education of medical students and pediatric residents and has published a book with Elsevier in 2011 entitled Pediatrics, A Competency-Based Companion as co-chief editor along with physician Glenn Stryjewski.
