"There have been huge changes in ophthalmology over the last twenty years. I'm especially interested in a newer drug called Avastin. We have started using it in the treatment of a wide range of eye diseases, from proliferative diabetic retinopathy to neovascular glaucomas."

With over 20 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Jacobson brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry, and in particular, to his area of expertise, ophthalmology. When asked why he decided to pursue a career in this specialization, Dr. Jacobson said:
"During my last two years of medical school one of my neighbors was an Ophthalmologist practicing at the Joslin Diabetes Center, also in Boston. And she asked me, ‘why aren't you looking at ophthalmology?’. I said ‘what's ophthalmology?’ I had no idea at the time. And so she invited me into her office and and she showed me some of the things that she did. She really seemed to enjoy the field because she got to meet all kinds of interesting people there. She told me that as an Ophthalmologist she was able to make her patients very happy, which was extremely rewarding for her. That’s what convinced me."
As a thought-leader in his specialty, Dr. Jacobson pays close attention to prevailing trends in ophthalmology. In particular, he is optimistic about the use of Avastin, an angiogenesis inhibitor – a drug designed to slow the growth of new blood vessels – now considered vital in treating certain eye diseases. He noted:
"There have been huge changes in ophthalmology over the last twenty years. I’m especially interested in a newer drug called Avastin. We have started using it in the treatment of a wide range of eye diseases, from proliferative diabetic retinopathy to neovascular glaucomas."
Dr. Jacobson is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, and a member of the The New York State Ophthalmology Society and the The American Academy of Ophthalmology. In addition to his practice at the NYU Langone Medical Center, he is also affiliated with the Lenox Hill Hospital and The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary.
