With over 28 years dedicated to medicine, Geenens brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry and, in particular, to his area of expertise, adult and child psychiatry. When asked about what give his work meaning, Geenens said:

"If my patients are happy with me that tells me I'm doing a good job. My primary objective is to make sure my patients are happy with the care I offer."

As a leader in his industry, Dr. Geenens has been one of the nation’s most sought after speakers on issues pertaining to psychopharmacology and other aspects of psychiatric diagnoses and treatment. He has received many awards for his education and research. He continues to teach medical students and has acted as a consultant to a variety of professional organizations including several NFL teams and professional athletes.

Over the course of his career as a psychiatrist, Dr. Geenens has seen many trends come and go. In 2008, he decided to stop accepting insurance in order to provide better care to his patients. He noted:

"I pay attention to trends in insurance and managed care. I'm not a part of it and I'm glad I'm not a part of it, but I try to maintain a very individualized approach because I don't have to answer to somebody else. I'm kind of an outlier...because I don't want somebody or some institution interfering with what the patient and I decide is best for them. I am more concerned with my patients’ needs. If somebody needs to see me for three hours, for example, I don't have somebody telling me that they can't."

Dr. Geenens currently runs a thriving psychiatric practice, Greater Than One, based in Leawood, Kansas in the Kansas City area. There, he focuses on a variety of psychiatric and mental health issues, including addiction and behavioral management, weight-loss, and mindfulness. The practice also offers legal review and consultation to guide lawyers regarding mental health related issues. He is also an active member in the International Society of Sports Psychiatry.
