The Expert Network celebrates its newest member, Dr. Bulbul Bahuguna
Chicago, IL, August 10, 2016 (Newswire.com) - Dr. Bulbul Bahuguna, Psychiatrist, NorthShore University Health Systems, has joined The Expert Network, an invitation only service for distinguished professionals. Dr. Bahuguna has been chosen as a Distinguished Doctor™ based on peer reviews and ratings, numerous recognitions, and accomplishments achieved throughout her career.
Dr. Bahuguna outshines others in her field due to her extensive educational background, recognitions, and career longevity. She received her medical degree with High Honors from The Friendship University in Moscow, Russia in 1976 on a full scholarship from the Indian government. She completed her residency in Psychiatry with Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 1990. She has been named a Who’s Who Top Doctor and is a recipient of the America’s Best Physician Award from The National Consumer Advisory Board, among numerous awards and honors.
"It has been a huge honor for me, the foundation is about improving the life and livelihood of people, especially women, in India. I felt at that time because I did not have to pay anything for my education, that it really impels me to give back to society, and to people, and that's what I've been doing."
Bulbul Bahuguna, M.D., Psychiatrist, NorthShore University Health Systems
With 25 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Bahuguna brings a wealth of knowledge to her industry and, in particular, to her area of expertise, psychiatry. When asked why she decided to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Bahuguna said:
"I found that the thing that appeals to me the most in medicine was psychiatry because it's about coping with difficult issues, it's about storytelling, it's about narratives, it's about meeting real people in their lives."
Dr. Bahuguna currently practices with the NorthShore University Health Systems, an affiliate of The University of Chicago and Mayo Clinic, in Chicago, Illinois where she is an Attending Physician in the Department of Psychiatry. She is also the acclaimed author of the novel The Ghosts That Come Between Us. When asked about the novel, Dr. Bahuguna said:
"The book is about a girl who becomes a woman and then goes through abuse, loss, and illness – three of the most traumatic things that people can go through. I took a bold step to write it in first person even though it's not about my life, but I did it so I could step into her shoes and try to experience what she experiences in her life. Basically the goal was to help my patients work through their problems, their abuse, loss, or illness."
As a thought-leader in her specialty, Dr. Bahuguna serves as a National Trustee of the American India Foundation, or AIF, and founded the organization’s Chicago chapter. For her, the desire to give back to those in her home country stems from the opportunity she received in her youth. She noted:
"It has been a huge honor for me, the foundation is about improving the life and livelihood of people, especially women, in India. I felt at that time because I did not have to pay anything for my education, that it really impels me to give back to society, and to people, and that's what I've been doing."
