Dr. Valencia completed her second fellowship in Personality Disorders at the Personality Disorders Institute at New York Presbyterian Hospital, Weill Cornell Medical Campus. Dr. Valencia underwent her third specialty in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Yale University-The Child Study Center under the tutelage of Doctors Dorothy Stubbe, Andres Martin, James Leckman, and Andrew Lustbader. While at Yale, she attended the prestigious and highly selective Anna Freud Institute in London, where she trained with Doctors Peter Fonagy and Mary Taget on the Mentalization Based Psychotherapy and the unique form of Family Therapy with Infants.
With 23 years dedicated to medicine, Dr. Valencia brings a wealth of knowledge to psychiatry, including child and adolescent psychiatry, adult psychiatry, and personality disorders with borderline level of psychopathology. She also applies the newly advanced genetic testing which shows the association of the unique personal genetics and their interaction with all the available psychiatric medicines.
When asked why she decided to pursue a career in medicine, Dr. Valencia said:
"The two most interesting science studies for me were medicine and astrophysics. I decided to become a physician but, at the same time, I was able to take a few courses in astronomy which is still one my hobbies.”

In addition to other activities, she is dedicated to helping documented immigrants with psychiatric symptoms avoid deportation to home countries where their life is at severe risk due to the impairment caused by a treatable psychiatric condition. Dr. Valencia understands the importance of helping this vulnerable segment of society. She noted:
