itions, outstanding customer service, and career longevity. He graduated from Wofford College with a degree in Economics in 2000 and is also a Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist (CMPS®). Over the course of his career, he has helped hundreds of central South Carolinian borrowers fulfill their residential home financing needs. Today, as Branch Manager, his reputation speaks for itself: 75% of his business consists of repeat borrowers and referrals from happy customers who know he will do the best job possible for their friends and family, and he has been the winner of the Building Industry Association of Central South Carolina’s “Mortgage Professional of the Year” award for four years running.
With nearly 15 years of experience, Mr. Hammond brings a wealth of knowledge to his industry and, in particular, his area of expertise, residential loans, and lending services. After graduating from college, he was active in the South Carolina government. He worked on the congressional campaign and the State Senate before deciding to make the switch to the mortgage industry. When asked what inspired him to pursue a career in mortgages, Mr. Hammond said:
"The work I did after college wasn’t really a career for me; it was just a way to get a paycheck. I knew I needed a change and at the time a fraternity brother of mine was working for Mortgage Network. With my economics background, he thought that I would be a good fit, so he set up a meeting with the regional manager. I walked out of that conversation with a job offer in hand. It was so clearly a perfect fit."
As a thought-leader in his industry, Mr. Hammond is trained to keep up with and interpret market developments so he can help his clients make informed decisions. Recently, he has been paying close attention to a significant drop in inventory which is changing the way he advises his clients. He noted:
"In past years we have almost had a glut of inventory with the housing and mortgage meltdown, but starting last year, inventory has continued to shrink. I think the last number that I heard was that we had less than a one-month inventory sitting out there, meaning that I have a stack of pre-approvals for people who can’t find homes. There’s not really much that can be done about it other than trying to educate people looking to sell that right now is probably the best possible time to do so. It’s almost like we’re sitting over here waiting for some sort of catalyst to prompt a fix. It might be a rising rate environment that actually ends up pushing up prices."
